We want this website to work for everyone, including people using a screen reader, people navigating by keyboard, and people on a phone with a weak signal in a glen. This page says how we are doing, honestly, including the things that are not right yet.
What We Aim For
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. That is the standard most public bodies in the UK are held to. We are a volunteer-run charity rather than a public body, so we are not required to meet it - we would just rather the site worked for everyone.
What Works Well
- You can reach everything with a keyboard, and there is a clear blue outline showing where you are.
- There is a “skip to content” link so you do not have to tab through the menu on every page.
- Pages have one main heading and a sensible heading order, so a screen reader can navigate by structure.
- Every image has a text description.
- Links say where they go. There is no “click here”.
- Form fields have proper labels, and required fields are marked in text as well as colour.
- The site reflows down to a 320 pixel screen without sideways scrolling, and works at high zoom.
- There is no advertising, no tracking, nothing that flashes, and nothing that moves on its own.
What Is Not Right Yet
- Some documents in the leaders’ area were written before we thought about this, and may not read well in a screen reader. We will fix them as they are next updated, and will supply any document in another format on request.
- The hall booking calendar was built for us and is newer than the rest of the site. It has not yet been tested with a screen reader. If it does not work for you, email bookings@scoutsinverness.org.uk and we will tell you what is free and take your booking by email instead.
Parts of the Site We Do Not Control
One thing on this website is provided by another organisation, and we cannot change how it is built:
| What | Where | If it does not work for you |
|---|---|---|
| The donation form, provided by Zeffy | On the donate page | Email us and we will arrange another way for you to give |
Joining Scouting is handled through Online Scout Manager, which is also run by someone else. If you have difficulty with it, contact us and we will take your details another way.
Tell Us About a Problem
If something on this site does not work for you, please tell us - you will be doing us a favour. Email info@scoutsinverness.org.uk and say which page it was and what happened. You do not need to know the technical reason.
We will reply within 10 working days. We are all volunteers, so we cannot promise to fix everything quickly - but we will tell you honestly whether we can fix it, roughly when, and what we can do in the meantime. If you need information from this site in another format, such as large print or plain text, ask and we will send it.
How We Tested This
We checked the site ourselves in September 2026, going through the pages with a keyboard, measuring the colour contrast of text against its background, checking the heading structure and image descriptions, and shrinking the browser to a narrow phone width to make sure nothing was cut off.
That is not the same as a professional audit, and it is not the same as testing with people who actually use assistive technology every day. If you use a screen reader and would be willing to tell us how you get on, we would genuinely like to hear from you.
This statement was prepared in September 2026, updated in October 2026, and applies to this website. See also our privacy notice.
